# Ohook Activation

## Overview

-   **How to use it?** Instructions can be found [here](intro.md).
-   This activation method activates all Office versions on Windows Vista and later (including their Server equivalents), except for Office UWP apps.
-   This activation method works offline and activates Office permanently.
-   This activation method survives Office repairs, updates, and even major Windows feature upgrades. You do not need to reactivate in these cases.
-   For the Office 365 subscription version, server-side features such as 1TB storage are unavailable. However, most other features, including the 5GB storage provided with a free OneDrive account, function normally.
-   This activation method does not modify or patch any onboard system files; instead it installs a custom `SPPC.dll` (open source) file to handle activation. See the  "How does it work?" section below for details.

## How does it work?

#### For SPP-based Office:

-   As illustrated in the first image above, during the official activation process of SPP-based Office, Office queries `C:\Windows\System32\sppc.dll` regarding activation status. That file then queries the Software Protection Platform (SPP) at `C:\Windows\System32\sppsvc.exe` and returns the status to Office.

-   As illustrated in the second image above, we modify this behavior by placing a custom `sppc.dll` file in the Office folder without altering the system's original `C:\Windows\System32\sppc.dll`. This custom file always returns a message confirming that Office is activated. This is how Ohook activation works.

## How to remove Ohook?

1. In MAS, go to **Ohook Activation** and select the **Uninstall** option.
2. (Optional) After that, go to **Troubleshoot** in MAS and select the **Fix Licensing** option.
3. Done.

## Custom sppc.dll Info

-   In the MAS AIO version, these two files are encoded in Base64. The AIO script includes [instructions](https://stackoverflow.com/a/35335273) on how to decode files from Base64 format.  

**How to create identical sppc.dll files from scratch:**
1. Download the Ohook 0.5 source code file from [here](https://github.com/asdcorp/ohook/archive/refs/tags/0.5.zip).
2. Extract the zip file to a folder named `C:\ohook`.
3. Download these two compiler archives: [mingw32](https://github.com/brechtsanders/winlibs_mingw/releases/download/11.4.0-11.0.0-ucrt-r1/winlibs-i686-posix-dwarf-gcc-11.4.0-mingw-w64ucrt-11.0.0-r1.7z) and [mingw64](https://github.com/brechtsanders/winlibs_mingw/releases/download/11.4.0-11.0.0-ucrt-r1/winlibs-x86_64-posix-seh-gcc-11.4.0-mingw-w64ucrt-11.0.0-r1.7z).
4. Extract both archives with 7-Zip to the C: drive so the paths look like this:  
    - `C:\mingw32`
    - `C:\mingw64`
5. Open PowerShell as Administrator and enter the command below to set the time and date:  
    `Set-TimeZone -Id 'UTC'; $date=[datetime]'2023/8/7 12:00';while($true){set-date $date; start-sleep -milliseconds 10;}`
6. Open a second PowerShell window and enter the commands below to compile the `sppc.dll` files:  
    `Set-Location -Path C:\ohook`  
    `C:\mingw64\bin\mingw32-make.exe`
7. Calculate the SHA-256 of the created `sppc64.dll` and `sppc32.dll` files using 7-Zip or PowerShell; they should match the checksums mentioned above.
8. Don. You can now close the PowerShell windows and correct the system date.
